Goal: $1,100 • Funded: $1,100
(2013) This project is for the purpose of acquiring the digital images of the entire collection of Rigden Thangkas owned by the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and then to publish them on the Shambhala International website.
The Museum has recently completed the photography of the entire collection of 22 Thangkas of the Dharmarajas and Rigden Kings, which were initially on exhibit at the Museum in 2012. The images can also be used, with the Museum’s permission, for future projects if so desired.
The Thangkas were purchased in Paris by Denman Waldo Ross and were donated to the Museum in 1906. The curator, Jacki Elgar, was able to determine that these works were painted by Tibetans, most likely in a monastery with ties to the Gelugpa lineage.
