(2008) The purpose of the Root Text Project is to produce a three-volume set of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s core three yana teachings based on the thirteen Vajradhatu Seminaries, condensing and re-editing the 25 volumes of seminary transcripts.
The Root Text Project is a multi-year editing and publishing project. It is complex, with many components, including scanning and transcribing, translation work, and many levels of editing, scholarly review, and refinement. The benefits of this project include:
– fulfilling the wishes of the Vidyadhara to refine, condense and publish these teachings
– making core seminary teachings more accessible to current and future Shambhala students
– making core seminary teachings available for the first time to the general public
The expected time frame for the hinayana volume would be to have a completed manuscript by mid-2009.
The three final volumes of the Root Text Project will be based on seminary teachings, condensed to a lucid, vetted, reviewed and accessible point and will maintain the voice, style and provocative insight of the Vidyadhara. These books will be the first public exposition of his systematic teachings on the Buddhist path from beginning to end. They stand to reach a much larger potential audience than the seminary transcripts have ever enjoyed, and identify the Vidyadhara as a leading thinker of the contemporary world.
